Hypnotherapy can be used to aid fertility in many ways; firstly to relax and feel happy, stress can dramatically affect fertility. Stress is the body’s way of responding to any type of demand. When people feel some sort of stress around them the brain reacts by sending some chemicals into the blood stream. The body goes into what is known as the fight or flight response.
The fight and flight response is a natural response that the brain uses to help us survive in dangerous situations. During this response our body begins to send all of its resources to the areas needed for fighting or fleeing (the arms and legs for example). Whilst systems in the body that are not essential are shut down to allow the areas needed for fighting or fleeing to have the most input. The reproductive system is one of the areas needed the least for fighting or fleeing. It is therefore mostly shut down.
When in a stressed state the body begins to put all of its eggs into one basket and that basket is not the reproductive system. When you are in a relaxed hypnotic state your body can come away from that stressed state allowing your reproductive system to get back into optimal working order. We can also use hypnosis to remove any subconscious barriers to conception.

Using hypnotherapy whilst undergoing IVF treatment has been shown to increase the success statistics to over 50%! If you are using medical help, such as IVF we can help with relaxation at the important times but also use visualisation techniques to help the body do what it needs to do. When one visualises the brain sends out the same chemicals as it does when doing the actual task. This means that if you visualise something happening inside your body the brain will also send the same chemicals down as if it were really happening.
Hypnosis is complementary to any medical procedure and often can lessen discomfort or support the medical protocol. For example, medical personnel may experience difficulty inserting the catheter during egg retrieval; yet hypnotic suggestion can easily resolve this issue. Studies show the positive influence of hypnotic suggestion on bodily functions such as blood pressure and heart rate, and hypnosis has been shown to impact the hypothalamus and influence the release of hormones.
Pregnancy
Primarily, when attending a specific hypnosis for birth course you will gain a vast amount of medical and birthing knowledge. You will also learn how to relax using hypnosis. This does not mean you will have to be in a state of hypnosis when giving birth but it means you will be able to remain calm often resulting in a quicker delivery. Did you know when in fear or stressed the body automatically goes into the fight or flight response. When in this response labour stops or slows. This can be seen with animals in the wild. If they sense a predator their labour will stop until it is safe again. We teach you how to get back in control of your body so that your body does not kick into this automatic response. Babies born using hypnosis tend to be calmer, feed better, sleep better and experience less trauma, because they are more often than not gently and calmly breathed into the world at their own pace. Scientific research has also shown that the babies usually have higher Agpar scores as well.
You will finish feeling empowered to take back the control of your baby’s birth. It is not surprising that we often lose control in this fast paced, super technological world that we live in. We go to school and obey the teachers; we go to work and obey our managers. Everyone has their speciality and it is very rare for us to turn around and question let alone say no. A HypnoBirth program restores your confidence so you feel that it is ok to liaise with the medical staff. You will realise that it is ok to ask why something is being done and if you do not like something have the confidence to question it.
Clinical research has shown that confident, relaxed and positive mothers have better birth outcomes. During the HypnoBirth program you will learn how to relax using hypnosis so that during your labour you can, if you choose to, go into the deep relaxed state that is hypnosis. Many people do not realise that hypnosis is actually a heightened state. When in hypnosis, although very relaxed you will be able to think, feel and behave as normal. You will have focused concentration and be in full control of your body. A HypnoBirth program is however not all about hypnosis so, even though it is strongly recommended, you will not have to be under hypnosis at any point if you choose not to be. Remember this is all about you having the birth of your dreams.
